Moyletra is a small farm outside Garvagh, just 12 miles from the Coast.
After years in commercial cattle production, we returned to the Irish Moiled — a rare native breed once kept on our farm before.
Today our work centres on conservation, careful grazing and producing Certified Irish Moiled Beef with integrity from herdbook to plate.
Early 2000s
We were farming commercial cattle in a system of high inputs and a constant push to become bigger. It didn't feel right.
June 2018
In 2018 we brought home our first Irish Moiled cow, Honey — a decision that changed the direction of our farm.
Today
Today we actively contribute to protecting the integrity of this rare native breed. Our system is slower, more considered and rooted in long-term stewardship.
A return to native cattle, family farming and a slower, more considered way of working the land.
Low-input, grass-based farming shaped by the needs of the breed and the rhythm of the seasons.
